Too Legit To Knit

I am currently knitting a scarf. It is my very first project. It's a chunky scarf and should be rather warm for the winter. It's almost as soft as Yuki = ) After I complete this first project I plan on knitting a scarf for Brian and a neck warmer for my mother. A neck warmer is a little different than a scarf because it buttons around your neck. I wish I could knit Yuki a little sweater, but I know she will have nothing to do with it since she doesn't even like wearing her leash and collar. Picky shiba. I tried to make her wear a winter coat and she refused to move once we finally got it on her. I had the same issue with the "Ruff, White, and Blue" T-shirt I tried to have her wear for our Fourth of July party. I am just going to have to accept the fact that naturally, as a dog, she doesn't like clothing and that I won't be able to knit anything for her to wear.

Getting Knitty With It

I have recently taken up knitting and find it a soothing hobby. I can knit when I am watching T.V., listening to music, and, best of all, I can knit when I am with the girls. (Boys are welcome too of course!) My girlfriend introduced me to knitting and, bless her heart, had the patience to teach me. I get easily frustrated, but she encouraged me to be patient with myself. It has been a rather therapuetic experience; both learning to knit and, now, knitting for fun. I want to share it with you and guide you to some resources that may be helpful should you find that you are interested in taking up the craft.

At the bottom of my blog I have listed some of my favorite links, including the KnittingHelp.com web site. This is a great resource for people who want to learn how to knit or are continuing to learn. (http://www.knittinghelp.com) KnittingHelp.com provides video tutorials, patterns, a discussion forum, and glossary of knitting terms. It is very user friendly and easy to navigate. Another great web site for knitters is Ravelry. (http://www.ravelry.com) Ravelry is a knit and crochet community where you can share ideas and techniques and find free patterns for a variety of projects. There is even a blog! The third resource I would like to recommend is a knitter's handbook I found called "Stitch'N'Bitch". It provides stitch by stitch instructions, pictures, and patterns with a very humorous and entertaining approach. In addition to the book, there is a "Stitch'N'Bitch" web site. (http://www.knithappens.com) All three of these resources are perfect for anyone interested in learning to knit and I highly recommend a visit to all three sites.

A glimpse into my life...

My Yuki

This is my shiba inu/miniature husky mix Yuki. My boyfriend and I got her in May 2008and even though the first few weeks were challenging, she has been the best thing to happen to us. She brings us so much joy and laughter each and every day. She is very cuddly and affectionate-especially when one of us is sad or has had a bad day. She is incredibly friendly, loves to meet new people and make new doggy friends. I take her to the dog park several days a week or set up doggy play dates with my friends' dogs. Most of my friends have a dog or two of their own. Seattle culture is very dog friendly (in addition to coffee obsessed) so there are plenty of opportunities to go out with your dog and I make the most of them. For example, in two weeks we are attending a festival in the city of Kirkland, WA. (http://kirklanduncorked.com/) In addition to wine tastings and street performances, they are hosting a City Dog Magazine Cover Model contest and I am entering Yuki. (I mean, look at her...she screams "model".) It's a fundraiser and that makes it the most important and most fun. Plus, it's another opportunity to get out with Yuki = )

Greetings from Seattle

Hi all.

My name is Mischell and I live in "sunny" Seattle. It has actually been pretty warm here recently. No rain = ) This is my third class at Boston University. I am pursuing a Master of Science in Project Management degree and hope to visit Boston for graduation. I have always wanted to go. I am currently unemployed (tough times) but am enjoying school and time at home with my shiba inu/miniature husky mix. Her name is Yuki and she is the love of my life. Well, her and my boyfriend...ha. I have enjoyed my BU experience thus far and look forward to the challenges of this course. I am not computer savvy so this will definitely be a challenge, but one well worth tackling. Although I am a frequent user of Facebook, this blogging thing is unfamiliar to me.

I am a 2003 graduate of the University of Washington and received a sociology degree. I had planned on going to law school, but quickly realized it was not the route for me. I worked for several years at Smith Barney and worked my way up the corporate ladder. I realized I wasn't interested in the finance industry so I took two years to pursue other opportunities-dance related. I was an NFL Cheerleader for two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and went to Super Bowl with the team in 2006. It was a surreal experience and one I will always appreciate. Both of these experiences, however, didn't lead me in the direction of finding my career path. So...here I am = ) Wish me luck.
